What is Microneedling?

Microneedling with PRP in Sterling Heights

As we age, our skin starts to wrinkle, sag, and dry largely due to a loss of collagen, which gives it that voluminous, youthful shine we all desire. Microneedling leverages your body’s natural ability to produce this wonderful substance using extremely small, sterilized needles to make tiny perforations in the skin. Also known as collagen induction therapy, it incites the skin to naturally renew and repair itself, breathing life back into it while eliminating a wide variety of common flaws (more on this below).

How Does PRP Work with Microneedling?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gives your skin premium fuel for the remodeling and rejuvenation process, and it comes from your own body! We just take a sample of blood (about the same needed for a routine test) and spin it in a centrifuge to separate out a substance that is overflowing with growth factors and enriching proteins. After your initial microneedling treatment, we apply the PRP to your face, where it’s able to reach the deeper layers of the skin and accelerate tissue regeneration.

  • Sun Damage
  • Surgical Scars
  • Burns
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven Skin Texture

The Microneedling with PRP Treatment Process

Woman lying back and relaxing

First, we apply a topical solution to your face to slightly numb it, allowing you to stay relaxed in the chair while our soothing environment naturally slows your breathing and heart rate. As it works, we’ll take some of your blood to create the PRP. While that’s going on, Dr. Tamara will complete the microneedling portion of the process. By the time she’s finishing up, the PRP should be ready or almost ready, and she’ll apply it to the surface of your skin. Afterward, a serum or balm may be used to reduce any redness or irritation. All in all, this tends to take about 30-45 minutes on average.

You’ll be given a straightforward skincare regimen to follow, and you can expect the full results to become beautifully obvious after about four to six weeks. Multiple treatments may be necessary depending on the starting condition of your skin, and Dr. Tamara will discuss all these details at your initial consultation so you know what to expect throughout the process.
